Where is the proposed Tar Farm Solar Farm?
The site is situated on land at Tar Farm, Tar Road, Stanton Harcourt, Witney, West Oxfordshire, OX29 5AL. The site consists of approximately 200 acres (81Ha) across several fields which are currently used for arable farming. Following a thorough and wide-ranging land search this site was chosen for its seclusion, relatively poor soil quality and access to the grid. In particular, it is set within a landscape of mature hedge rows and wooded areas which affords excellent natural screening. It is predominantly Grade 3B land which is not the best and most versatile for agriculture. It can be connected into the nearby Witney sub- station thereby minimising transmission losses.
Introducing Tar Farm Solar Farm
Bluefield Renewable Developments Ltd will be developing a solar farm on land at Tar Farm. We are pleased to announced that our application for Tar Farm Solar Farm has received consent. The full application can be found on West Oxfordshire District Council’s planning portal under the reference 21/03711/FUL. This website provides some further information on our site.
The solar farm will have an approximate capacity of 49.9 MW. The proposed development will create enough renewable energy to meet the annual electricity needs of approximately 13,000 homes. It will also offset approximately 11,200 tonnes of CO2 each year, the equivalent to taking around 5,160 cars off the road each year.
The benefits
• It will assist West Oxfordshire District Council in reducing greenhouse gas emissions in line with national targets.
• The solar farm will contribute towards the security of energy supply in West Oxfordshire through the provision of local, renewable energy supply.
• Public rights of way will be unaffected by the operational solar farm.
• New hedgerow planting is proposed to contain and screen the solar farm from its surroundings.
• This is a temporary development, allowing the land to rest for the period of operation.
• The solar farm will have a significant positive net biodiversity impact.
• Careful consideration has been given to the development to avoid affects on landscape, heritage or ecological designations.
• The solar farm will not require Government subsidy.
Founded in 2009, the Bluefield Group builds, manages and operates solar and other renewable energy projects on behalf of its clients.
